Fiber Construction

Tel-Star is currently converting our entire system to a fiber-to-the-home network!

Frequently asked questions

I THOUGHT WE HAD FIBER ALREADY?

Our last upgrade featured an HFC network which means a hybrid network. This means that the “backbone” of the network is fiber, but the fiber wasn’t ran directly into our customer’s homes.

WHY IS THIS FIBER BETTER?

We are converting our entire network to fiber-to-the-home (FTTH). FTTH networks are “networks of the future” and are the most cutting edge technology available for internet networks today. This network will be ultra-reliable and lightning-fast for years to come!

WHAT IF I'M ALREADY A CUSTOMER?

If you’re already a Tel-Star customer, once we convert your neighborhood to FTTH, we will upgrade you to this network free of charge! You will receive mailers and email alerts once the FTTH network is available. After that, go online or call to set up an install to change over to the new network. It’s a fast & easy process!

HOW LONG WILL YOU BE IN MY YARD?

Construction in your personal yard will typically be done in 1 day and we move down the street. Construction is fairly quick and low impact.

HOW DO YOU KNOW WHERE MY SPRINKLER LINES ARE?

However, our conduit is put in 24”-36” this generally keeps us under all of your sprinkler system. We recommend to everyone to run your sprinklers before and after construction to make sure a line didn’t get nicked by a shovel. If you do see that something is wrong please call us immediately and we will make sure to have it fixed for you in 24 Hours. Generally we can even repair it for you the same day!

HOW LONG UNTIL THE NEW NETWORK IS READY?

We already have a few of our neighborhoods converted over to fiber-to-the-home, but we will roll this out in every single area we service over the next 3-5 years! We will send updates and post on Facebook about our progress.

Benefits of fiber internet

RELIABLE. LIGHTNING-FAST.

Fiber is a much more reliable source of internet than traditional broadband internet. It is unaffected by weather and is not throttled by how many people are using the internet at any given time. Fiber is not powered anywhere; it is fully transmitted by light, so the only powered equipment is in your home and at our network head end. As long as our head end is powered and your home is powered, you will always receive lightning-fast internet. Fiber also has been known to increase home value by about 3.1%, according to a study done by researchers at the University of Colorado Boulder.
